"The exciting prospect of a varied finance role, resulted in an offer I couldn’t refuse."

Why did you join AppSense?

Upon returning from a year’s work in Australia and 7 months travelling, I was looking for a company where I could take my career to the next level. I was presented with the position at AppSense and following my initial research, I was intrigued as well as impressed. The company has made significant growth over recent years, but has done this in a controlled manner.

The market, in which AppSense is in, has been fully endorsed and backed via the significant investment from Goldmann Sachs.

All of this, combined with the exciting prospect of a varied finance role, resulted in an offer I couldn’t refuse.

What has your career path been at AppSense?

I originally joined AppSense as a Project Accountant. In this role, I was involved in varying different projects across the finance function and the business, ranging from working closely with the CEO providing detailed metrics on business performance to liaising with external consultants on resolving tax issues in Germany.

After 10 months working as a Project Accountant, I was promoted into the role of Finance Manager for the EMEA region. Managing a team of 6 people, I oversee the everyday running of the finance function. Alongside my core duties, I still manage the company’s relationship with our SAP providers and I am involved in a number of projects, as the business continues to grow.

About you

Outside of work, I’m very much into my Sports. I’m a keen footballer and for my sins follow Bolton Wanderers down at the Reebok as much as I can. Also, when I get chance, I like a nice round of golf with lads, followed by a few pints at the 19th Hole!

Prior to joining AppSense, I had been travelling for the 7 months and lived in Sydney for the previous 12. Throughout my travels, I visited various places throughout Australasia and Asia. The main stand out areas have to be the Fijian Islands, Outer Mongolia and the deepest darkest Siberia, where temperatures reached a sweltering -40’C.

I was yearning to be a part of a multi-national, forward thinking IT organization which could provide me a platform to work with futuristic technologies.

What has your career path been at AppSense?

I joined Appsense as an Android developer in the research team in September 2012. My role involves understanding the latest trends in mobile technology and creating Android Applications for AppSense. I currently work with DataNow mobile development teams both in the US and UK.

It has been brilliant so far. Since day 1, I am convinced that AppSense is not a conventional company. My colleagues are highly talented and amicable. I have so much to learn from their expertise.

About you

I am from Bangalore, India. I started my career 4 years back at Embedded Innovations Lab, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS). I truly enjoy developing on Android and have released a few Apps on Google Play too.

“I have experienced start-up and large blue chip environments and Appsense is a beautiful sweet spot.”

Why did you join AppSense?

The passion shown by people here is luminous and contagious.  It was clear to me that Appsense is a place where I can make a significant contribution to both the business and how we develop technology.

What has your career path been at AppSense?

I have been at AppSense since January 2011. I am now Head of UK Mobile Engineering since being promoted in June 2013.

And in 60 Seconds...

When not making software, I help run a supplementary school in Manchester that teaches foreign languages. I can also be found falling on snow, head first!

"I am excited and confident that my role at AppSense will make myself and the company grow into something greater."

Why did you join AppSense?

Three words: Help, Challenge, Learn.

I like when my job and what I create has an impact on other people, and I truly believe that the software I’m working on here at AppSense is positively enhancing peoples jobs and lives.

I like to be challenged and presented with difficult problems to solve. If everything is easy all the time, it becomes mundane.

I love learning! New skills, random knowledge, new domains, etc. I want to continue learning as much as I can.

Prakash assured me that AppSense was full of these things, as well as new opportunities. I am excited and confident that my role at AppSense will make myself and the company grow into something greater.

What do you like most about AppSense?

The people, and their openness to change. People, products, art, etc. all have to evolve and change in order to be great. Some people don’t understand this, and then they get stuck, and their full potential is never released. The people here want to be great, and want the product to be great, and understand that sometimes that means making changes.

What has your career path been at AppSense?

I’ve just started but my focus is usability, from user research to interaction design all the way through usability testing.

About you

I grew up on a farm, drove tractors at the age of 8 and had a rabbit business at the age of 12.

Things I’ve been on: a moon lander crew module, the great wall, a high-speed bullet train, and a bull.

I love to bake!! Just ask the Sunnyvale office, I don’t think any of my creations have lasted more than 20 minutes in the office.

I’m a professional dancer, and love musical theatre. If you see me dancing or conducting in my chair while working, it’s probably because I’m listening to the soundtrack of some musical.
